Is There A Service That Picks Out Outfits For You?

Years ago, having a personal stylist seemed like an expensive luxury — and fortunately, that's no longer the case. Many clothing companies now offer the ability to hire a personal stylist online for a few dollars per month, and those costs can be offset by purchasing the curated items.

Companies like Stitch Fix, Trunk Club, and Wantable Style Edit have revolutionized the shopping experience. You can try on clothes in the comfort of your own home, and by entrusting your wardrobe to an experienced personal stylist, you'll get fresh looks that match (and improve) your unique style. Whether you're looking for hassle-free shopping or you simply don't have time to craft those trendy outfits, working with a clothing stylist has major benefits.

To that end, we've collected the best online personal stylist services available. For each selection, we'll explain pricing, features, and how the service works — and wherever we could, we included promo links and coupons to keep costs low. At the end of this article, we've also provided information about the factors we used to rank our favorite fashion stylers.

The Most Popular Personal Styling Services & Subscriptions

Our reviewers love the way these fashionable subscriptions have enhanced their wardrobe — and if you're ready to fill your closet with trendsetting clothes, these companies can help you take the first step.

1. Stitch Fix – Best Online Stylist Service Overall

The Cost: $20 styling fee (applies to any items you decide to keep.) Sign up here.

Sizes Served: Women sizes 0-24W & XS-3X, Men sizes XS-3XL, Kids sizes 2T-14, and Maternity (1st, 2nd, & 3rd trimester, and postpartum)

What Our Readers Say:

"I love Stitch Fix, and I'm well into the fifties, as far as how many boxes I've received. The clothes are great quality, they listen to feedback, and they always put in cute stuff." – Amy

"Somehow everything always fits…even jeans! And the attention to style for each person is phenomenal. Me and my 3 sisters all use it and now so does my mom, aunt, and two teenage nieces!" – Jenny

"They've sent me some beautiful garments." – Ashley Harrison

About the Stylist Service: Stitch Fix is in the title of this list for a good reason: It's arguably the most well-known online stylist service. It remains one of the best — Stitch Fix is a recurring favorite among our readers.

The company's approach has quickly spread to other online personal stylists; you pay a modest fee ($20 at the time this was written), fill out a survey, then receive a curated selection of five items. Keep any of the items, and the styling fee applies towards your purchase. If you keep all five items, you'll receive a 25% discount.

That means that Stitch Fix clothes are ultimately less expensive than what you'd pay when shopping retail, provided that your stylist knows how you dress. And that's where Stitch Fix really shines — their survey collects info about sizing, style, and pricing preferences, and Stitch Fix stylists go above and beyond to make sure that every clothing box is on-trend and appropriate to the subscriber.

Whether you love shopping for clothes or absolutely hate the experience, Stitch Fix removes the hassle while upgrading your look. The site has options for just about everyone, and they're consistently one of the best options for finding online personal stylist services at a fair price.

2. Trunk Club – Personal Styling Service with Top Brands

The Cost: $25 styling fee (applies to any items you decide to keep.) Subscribe here.

Sizes Served: Women sizes XXS-4X (including petite sizes XXS-XL), Men sizes XS-XXXL, and Maternity

What Our Readers Say:

"They always deliver the best clothes." – Sherri

"Much better quality and personalized, professional looks." – marieseitz

"Higher end." – Kc

About the Styling Service:

Nordstrom's personal styling service, Trunk Club , offers luxurious clothes from the company's top brands in a range of styles. This isn't a subscription service — you'll pay a $25 styling fee per clothing box, fill out a form, and Trunk Club will assign a personal stylist to handle the rest.

The styling fee is slightly more expensive than other options on this list, and Nordstrom apparel aren't cheap. They're worth the investment, however, and there's little downside: As with Stitch Fix, you'll try on your clothes at home, then ship back anything you don't want to keep. The $25 fee applies towards anything you keep.

If you have a Nordstrom credit or debit card, the styling fee is waived and clothing is price matched. That makes this an excellent value for people with those cards (or people who don't mind applying for one).

We love that Trunk Club allows you to edit your delivery before it ships, and the clothing is truly high quality — the stylists take care when selecting each item, so while this isn't a subscription per se, you'll still get a personalized touch.

Check out all of our Trunk Club reviews to learn more! Ships to the continental US and to Alaska and Hawaii for a fee.

3. Wantable Style Edit – Best Online Stylist Services with Activewear Options

Cost: $20 styling fee (applies to any items you decide to keep.) Subscribe here.

ACTIVE DEAL: $35 off your first edit. No coupon needed - just use this link.

Sizes Served: Women sizes XS-3X & 0-24W

About the Styling Service: Wantable offers the opportunity to update your wardrobe 5-7 items at a time. Their personal stylist services are fairly standard for the market: You'll take a style quiz, receive 5-7 items, and keep anything you like. The styling fee applies to any purchases, and there's a 20% discount if you keep 5 or more pieces.

So, what sets Wantable apart? For starters, their subscriptions are flexible, so you can suit your deliveries to your preferences. 4. Menlo Club – Best Online Stylist Service for Men

The Cost:$60 per month. Subscribe here!

ACTIVE DEAL: Gets you your first box for $20 -$193 value.
CODE: JACKPOT20TB2

Sizes Served:Men sizes XS-XXXL & 29-44

What Our Readers Say:

"I bought from them and got amazing deals." – Char

About This Stylist Service: Many of the online personal stylist subscriptions we've covered have options for men, but this one's just for the gents. Menlo Club is a monthly men's clothing subscription that sends casual, classic, and fashion-forward garments styled to your tastes.

Once again, you'll take a survey to start your fashion journey. A stylist will curate 2-3 items per month from brands like Five Four, Grand AC, and New Republic. Unlike other personal stylist boxes, Menlo charges a straight $60 per box, so you'll know exactly what you're paying upfront.

Per the company's site:

Over the course of 12 months, members will receive New Republic footwear in two designated months, Grand AC athleisure wear in another two months, and Five Four contemporary wear in the remaining 8 months.

In other words, this is a simpler service; you can still exchange items, but there's a lot less back-and-forth shipping than with something like Stitch Fix. For certain men, that's a major advantage, but if you want to take more control over your deliveries, the other options we've covered might suit your tastes more effectively.

Menlo Club members also receive up to 25% off items in the Menlo House online store, along with free shipping on all orders. You'll get access to exclusive member-only items.

Check out our Menlo Club reviews to learn more. Ships to the contiguous US, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, and the UK.

5. Armoire – Best Online Stylist Service with Premium Rental Options

The Cost: Plans start at $49 per month. Subscribe here.

ACTIVE DEAL: Limited Time Only! Use code MSAHOLIDAY270 to get $270 OFF 3 months of Armoire's Unlimited Plan
CODE: MSAHOLIDAY270

Sizes Served:Women sizes 0-16W and Maternity

About the Styling Service: Liking the concept of a clothing rental subscription, but wish you could get more curation?

Enter Armoire , a garment rental service that focuses on personalization. You'll fill out a quiz collecting basic info about sizing and style preferences; at that point, you can partake in a complimentary 1-1 stylist appointment, which is held in person or over the phone. You're not simply communicating with your stylist over email — you're discussing your goals directly with them, which can be extraordinarily effective for finding new looks.

Granted, Armoire is more expensive than other online stylist services, but you'll get value for your money. The company offers high-end styles in a range of sizes, and you'll always have the option to purchase your favorite pieces at a discount.

While Armoire uses an algorithm-based system to hone in on your unique personal style, they pair that technology with human curation. You can ask your stylist for recommendations, which is helpful when you're planning for a special occasion.

Each shipment includes 4 items, but you can add extras whenever you'd like. Members also receive free gifts, invites to exclusive events, and other perks. With free cleaning, shipping, and styling, an Armoire clothing membership justifies its price tag, and the rental model can save you a ton of money over time.

Check out our Armoire reviews for more info. Ships to the US.

6. Dia & Co – Best Online Stylist Service for Plus-Sized Apparel

Cost: $20 styling fee (applies to any items you decide to keep.) Subscribe here.

"The quality and fit have been excellent. It has stepped up my style game. I have loved everything in every box. I did have an issue and it was resolved quickly and professionally. I highly recommend Dia & Co." – Anonymous

About the Styling Service: Dia & Co covers just about everything: casual outfits, workwear, going-out garb, and activewear (the company's activewear has its own separate subscription).

Specializing in plus-size clothes for women, Dia & Co. sends 5 pieces per month, personalized to the preferences you enter on the site's style quiz. You'll try out clothes, send back anything you don't want, and keep anything you love. Again, the styling fee counts towards your purchase, and the company offers an excellent 25% discount if you keep all 5 items.

We love that Dia & Co. caters their personal styling service towards plus-size women; there's less frustration involved (you won't suddenly learn that the cute top you've been eyeing is only available in straight sizes), and the curation takes body type into account.

Check out our Dia & Co reviews to learn more. Ships to the US.

7. Nadine West – Budget-Friendly Online Personal Stylist Services

The Cost: $9.78 styling fee (applies to any items you decide to keep.) Subscribe here.

ACTIVE DEAL: Get $25 off when you purchase a full box plus free shipping.
CODE: MSAWEST25

Sizes Served: Women sizes S-3X

What Our Readers Say:

"Great selection, affordable. Always something to like." – Anonymous

About the Stylist Service: Our readers love Nadine West 's low monthly fee and stylish selection. Who are we to argue?

This clothing subscription works how you'd expect; share your size information and style preferences when you sign up, and you'll receive an outfit with 4-6 pieces. That sometimes includes jewelry and accessories — a big plus if you're into accessorizing.

Try everything at home, choose what you want, send back what you don't want (you know the drill by now). We love that the average cost per item is around $20; you won't be surprised by hefty price tags here, but the high quality of the apparel will give you room to explore confidently. Nadine West notes that they don't send "cookie-cutter packages," which means that their personal stylist service is actually, well, personal.

ACTIVE DEAL: Get your first month free!
CODE: mysubaddictxoxo

Sizes Served:No sizes required—it's all jewelry.

What Our Readers Say:

"I have a simple wardrobe and Rocksbox helps me to dress it up!" – Anonymous

"I've had Rocksbox for a few years and love the choices. I've purchased quite a few pieces from them." – Joss

About the Accessory Service: Rocksbox is ready to expand your ensembles. It's a jewelry rental service with online stylists; choose to receive surprise selections from your curator or select your own pieces via the simple online platform. Each box includes a set of 3 pieces.

Subscribers can add items to their wishlist; at least one of their selections will be included per box. You can purchase jewelry at a discounted rate, and while Rocksbox jewelry is trendy and fun, it's typically affordable (we'd estimate the average price per piece at around $50, not including the member discount).

This is a unique option for personally curated accessories. It makes a great gift, too — share with a friend, and you'll have fun comparing your new pieces each month.

9. Trendsend by EVEREVE – Best Online Stylist Service from a Physical Retail Store

The Cost: $20 styling fee (applies to any items you decide to keep.) Subscribe here.

Sizes Served:Women sizes XS-XL & 24-32/0-14

About the Stylist Service: We love online clothing subscriptions — obviously — but there's something to be said for the convenience of a physical store. EVEREVE allows for in-store pick-up, so if you have a location near you, that's a great reason to check this service out.

Trendsend was created with busy women in mind, and to that end, they offer comprehensive personal stylist services with the convenience of a subscription box. You'll also find theme boxes, which provide an instant introduction to a new look.

Each box includes 2-3 complete outfits (a total of 6-8 items). You know the deal: try it all on, keep what works, send back what doesn't. If you keep 4 or more items, you'll receive a 10% discount on your order.

Check out all of our Trendsend reviews to learn more. Ships to the US.

10. Le Tote – Personal Stylist Services with Clothing Rental

Note: In 2020, Le Tote filed for bankruptcy, but this year, they've re-emerged as an online-only retailer.

The Cost: Subscriptions start at $69 per month. Subscribe here!

Sizes Served: Women sizes XXS-XL & 0-16 and Maternity

About the Stylist Service: Clothing rental services keep your wardrobe fresh while cutting down on waste (and saving you closet space in the long run). With the right personal stylist, they're also a great way to stay chic while saving money.

Le Tote checks all of those boxes. For the monthly fee, you can expect designer-quality clothing and accessories styled to your tastes (once again, you'll provide some basic information through an online quiz). Swap out your clothes as frequently or infrequently as you'd like.

Each box will include items that work together, so you've got a ready-to-go outfit on call. If you decide to purchase something, you'll get a discounted price (up to 50% off retail).

Renting lets you experiment with different styles that you normally wouldn't try without making a commitment, and Le Tote offers optional insurance for $5 per month. Pay that fee, and you won't have to worry about repairable damages (stains, missing buttons, and the other stuff that happens when you're living your best life).

Check out all of our Le Tote reviews to learn more. Ships to the continental US.

Factors We Considered When Reviewing These Online Personal Stylist Services

If you're looking for a clothing stylist online, you probably have a few expectations: You'll get immediate access to clothes that you actually want to wear, you'll be able to return anything you don't like, and you won't overpay for the experience. We think those expectations are fair — companies like Stitch Fix have built their reputations by offering simple, streamlined experiences (and awesome clothes).

To create this list of the best personal stylist subscriptions, we researched each company to find out how their processes work. We also read through feedback from My Subscription Addiction readers (if you're one of those kind people who left reviews, thank you — and if you've tried any of these subscriptions, remember, you can always leave your review to help other people make the best possible decisions).

Some of the factors we considered included:

  • Ease of Use – If you read through this entire list, you know that most Stitch Fix alternatives use the same approach; subscribers pay a small monthly fee, which is credited towards the cost of any items they keep. We tried to include a few stylist box subscriptions with different approaches, but we also wanted to make sure that every service offered an easy-to-understand ordering process. Put simply: If we couldn't understand how the subscription actually worked, we didn't include it here.
  • Quality and Pricing – Great clothing is always a worthwhile purchase, but price tags don't always indicate quality. We chose stylist boxes that justified their fees — either by offering an excellent value compared to retail pricing or by offering special discounts and other perks. Since Stitch Fix competitors make up most of this list, we chose companies with personal styling fees that were roughly equivalent to what Stitch Fix charges.
  • Customer Care – When you're paying for a clothing stylist, you want customized outfits. We prioritized companies with excellent customer service reputations. Your user reviews helped tremendously; if a company has a record of ignoring customer complaints, it didn't make the list.

We hope we've helped you find an online personal stylist that works for you. Remember, MSA offers extensive resources for evaluating brands (and for finding Stitch Fix alternatives, up-and-coming fashion boxes, and just about everything else related to subscriptions). By browsing our brand pages, you can get more detailed information on any of the companies listed above. Oh, and if we've missed your favorite stylist box subscription, be sure to let us know in the comments.

Lisa,

I'm having the exact same issue with my 14 year old daughter! I could have wrote your exact comment word for word! If you have luck with anything, I'd love to hear from you!

Hi Lisa, I am a young women and I also don't like the feeling of a bra or feeling tighten in any clothes. About the bras, I recommend the French brand "La Nouvelle" which it's been my go to for a year. Soft linen is a good alternative for men's t-shirts, as they are lightweight (H&M, American Vintage – lots of loose and great clothes). About trousers, it really depends on her morphology ! This period will pass, and then it is not very important, the most essential thing is that she feels comfortable in these clothes. 🙂

totally agree!! drape your shape is new but their concept works for me-the clothing is in stores so it's not close-out stuff that the sub boxes sell. i love it and it's so affordable!
